Years ago, I remember being new to kink, and very hungry for it. I spent money I didn’t really have on all sorts of toys and clothes. I embarked on the quest for the most comfortable diaper that would make me feel the most babyish. I tried all sorts of new activities

Back in my early teens, I was convinced that if I didn’t get a spanking and soon, I’d just about die from unhappiness. I thought that all I had to do was get that spanking and I’d be fine, and everything would be great. Some pain in my bottom would forever remove that lingering pain in my chest, right? Sadly, that just wasn’t the case.

The Tao is divided into two distinct halves, yin and yang. We’ve all seen the yin-yang symbol, the taijitu before. What many people don’t know is that yang is the male half, and one of its meanings is sunlight on the face of a mountain. Yin is the female half, and one of its meanings is the shadow cast in the valley of that same mountain.

One of my favorite Lao-tzu quotes is “A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent upon a destination.” That’s good advice for travelers and for kinky people too. I think that the notion of “fixed plans” speaks to both judgment and expectation. We’ve all heard judgments before like “spanking is great, but I’d never want to be whipped.” Expectations are just judgments that haven’t happened yet.
